Privacy Policy

The Orange County Asian American Bar Association (“OCAABA”) respects the privacy of its members, customers, subscribers, event registrants and other visitors to its website (“Users”) and has adopted this privacy policy in order to highlight the importance of privacy. This policy, which discloses ways in which OCAABA gathers and distributes information, may change at any time. Any changes will be posted on this website within this policy.

1.      What Types of Personal Information Do We Collect?

Information You Give Us. It is OCAABA’s general policy to collect only such personally identifiable information as our Users knowingly provide. OCAABA does not collect personally identifiable information from those merely browsing the OCAABA website. Most information collected on the website is used to better enable OCAABA to serve its members and customers. We may also contact you regarding a website problem or other customer or member service-related issues.

Those joining OCAABA as members, registering for OCAABA events and other services and activities on the website provide personally identifiable information as requested for those actions. Individuals are requested to provide similar information when they sign up by offline methods.

The categories of personal information collected may include:

  • Contact information, such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, fax numbers, e-mail addresses and possibly other identifiers that permit the physical or online contacting of a specific individual
  • Professional or employment-related information, such as titles, firm or company affiliations, and bar license numbers
  • Education information, such as schools attended and diplomas received
  • Financial information, such as cardholder information, credit card number, expiration date, and security code, for when you register for an OCAABA event or apply for membership

2.      How Do We Use Personal Information?

OCAABA uses the data collected to provide and improve goods and services to Users. Member information is not made available to the public, except as described in Section 3 below.

OCAABA members, customers, subscribers and event registrants will receive electronic and printed communications, including, where applicable, regular publications and information regarding OCAABA member and other events, elections, and other information related to the provision of member and customer services. Member communications are delivered as part of your OCAABA membership.

Any financial information we collect, such as cardholder information, credit card number, expiration date, and security code, is used for confirmation and billing purposes and to service the order.

3.      How Do We Share Personal Information?

Affiliates and Service Providers. OCAABA may use third-party service providers such as credit card processing companies like Wild Apricot Payments, AffiniPay, Square and other service providers as required to satisfy customer requests. Wild Apricot Payments, AffiniPay and Square comply with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

Third Party Links and Websites. OCAABA’s website contains links to websites not within the control of OCAABA and is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of such sites. We encourage our Users to be aware of the fact they are leaving our site and to read the privacy policies of each and every website. This privacy policy applies solely to information collected by the OCAABA website.

To the Public or other OCAABA Members. OCAABA may share a member’s name, their professional and educational affiliations, and other identifiers with the public or with other members, such as in a membership directory or other informational literature, unless the member has opted out. Members can adjust their settings at any time by logging into the OCAABA website and accessing their profile or by emailing contactus@ocaaba.org.

Disclosures Required by Law. We may be required to disclose your data in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet law enforcement requirements. We may be under a duty to disclose or share your personal information in order to comply with any legal obligation, to enforce or apply our terms and conditions and other agreements, to protect our rights, property, or safety, or the protect the rights, property, or safety of others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organizations for the purposes of fraud protection.

4.      Updating Personal Information

If you are a User from whom we have collected personally identifiable information, and your information changes, you may update it by logging into the OCAABA website and accessing your profile or by emailing contactus@ocaaba.org.

5.      How Do We Respond to ‘Do Not Track’ Signals?

OCAABA does not track its Users over time and across third party websites to provide targeted advertising and therefore does not respond to “do not track” signals.

6.      Use of “Cookies”

“Cookies” are pieces of data that a website may send for storage by your web browser on your computer’s hard drive. The OCAABA website may set cookies. A cookie may be used to identify your device to the website when you visit again so the site can load your preferences, automatically accept your credentials, or otherwise personalize the experience. Cookies do not store personally identifiable information about you, just information identifying your device. The OCAABA website is maintained on Wild Apricot. No tracking is performed on any website visitors. No analytics software is employed.

OCAABA does not authorize other parties to collect personally identifiable information about our Users’ online activities over time and across different websites when they use OCAABA’s website or service.

7.      Security

We implement a variety of security measures, such as access controls, to maintain the safety of your personal information when you enter, submit, or access your personal information. However, no website, application, or transmission can guarantee security. Thus, while we have established and maintain what we believe to be reasonable procedures to protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of personal information obtained through the Sites, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us.

8.      Electronic Discussion Groups

The OCAABA website does not offer electronic discussion groups. This privacy policy only applies to the OCAABA website.

9.      Children’s Privacy

OCAABA does not market to children under the age of 16 and does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 16 on the OCAABA website. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the contact details provided in the “Contact the Organization” section below. If we become aware that a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information.

10.  Notification of Policy Changes

We will notify members and other Users about material changes to our privacy policy by posting the privacy policy as changed on our website. Thus, Users of the website may want to periodically review the policy for changes.
