The Attorney will join the Consumer Defense Unit to help low-income individuals protect their rights in debt collection lawsuits, default judgments, and other consumer-related legal matters in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. This role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through direct representation, advocacy, and client-centered legal services for communities facing financial hardship.
This is a two-year, full-time, exempt position based in the Santa Ana office and reports to the Supervising Attorney. The position may become permanent, subject to funding availability. Applicants must be active members of the California Bar and within three years of post-law school graduation.
Responsibilities:

Manage consumer defense cases under attorney supervision, including motion practice, negotiations, settlements, trials, and client advocacy.

Advise and represent clients in debt collection, credit reporting, and related consumer matters using trauma-informed approaches.

Conduct client interviews, investigations, legal research, and draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.

Lead community outreach, legal education, and "Know Your Rights" workshops, and develop consumer awareness materials.

Maintain accurate case records and timekeeping in LegalServer.

Collaborate with community organizations and internal legal teams to provide comprehensive client services.

Promote equitable, culturally responsive advocacy and perform other duties as needed.
Education:
- Juris Doctor and active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
- Graduated from law school within 3 years prior to hiring date.
Qualifications:

Strong legal counseling, advocacy, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and provide practical legal advice with professionalism and attention to detail.

Experience working with low-income clients using client-centered, trauma-informed approaches.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal document preparation.

Interest or experience in consumer law, debt defense, credit reporting, foreclosure, and homeowner advocacy preferred.

Litigation experience, including discovery, depositions, and trial work, preferred.

Bilingual proficiency preferred.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
Annual salary range with benefits: $80,000.
